What is Los Monteros?

Los Monteros is a beachside residential area in East Marbella, about eight minutes by car from the centre, just east of the Río Real river. It grew out of a project by the banker Ignacio Coca and the Los Monteros group: the Los Monteros hotel was built in 1962, the Río Real golf course opened in 1965, and in the nineteen-seventies the villa estate beside the beach was developed. Today it is a settled area with almost no land left, with villas on their own plots, gated complexes and the five-star hotel beside the entrance.

Next to the estate stands Hospital Universitario Costa del Sol, the district reference hospital, and the Río Real and Santa Clara courses are alongside.
