What is the Marbella Golden Mile?
The Golden Mile is the coastal corridor linking Marbella centre with Puerto Banús along some five kilometres of landscaped avenue, with historic hotels, villas and beachfront developments. The name originally described the stretch between the Marbella Club and Puente Romano, and over the years it spread to the whole corridor, including the estates on the upper side.
Its history begins in 1947, when Princes Max and Alfonso of Hohenlohe bought the 18-hectare Santa Margarita estate. In 1954 Alfonso turned his residence into the Marbella Club, and the success of the hotel started the transformation of this strip into what is now the Golden Mile. Two decades later, in 1976, the Puente Romano complex went up next door.

Areas of the Golden Mile
The Golden Mile has a lower side and an upper side, and they are nothing alike:
- Lower side, on the beach: the villas and complexes between the avenue and the sand, with the Marbella Club and Puente Romano as landmarks. This is where land has run out and turnover is limited.
- Upper side, on the slopes of La Concha: Sierra Blanca, Nagüeles and Cascada de Camoján, villa estates with private security and sea views, a few minutes by car from the beach.
Between the two runs the avenue, with the hotels, the restaurants and the shops.

Hotels and life on the Golden Mile
The Marbella Club, opened in 1954, is where international Marbella began. Opposite it, the Puente Romano Beach Resort houses the Nobu hotel, a Six Senses spa and one of the densest concentrations of restaurants on the coast, plus the tennis club that opened in 1979 with Björn Borg at its head. Around the two hotels the social life of the Golden Mile revolves all year round.

What kind of property is there on the Golden Mile?
From apartments in gated complexes with gardens and concierge to seafront villas, by way of the villas with security on the upper side. Buying on the Golden Mile is buying location: the premium is for being walking distance from the beach, the hotels and the centre. Turnover is limited because there is practically no land left, which is why new developments appear mostly on the hillsides.
