What is Puerto Banús?

Puerto José Banús is the marina inaugurated on 18 May 1970 at the initiative of the developer José Banús. It was built in the image of an Andalusian village, with whitewashed houses around the basin instead of the usual port buildings, and that decision is what turned it into a destination rather than just a mooring. Among those attending the opening were Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco, Roman Polanski and Hugh Hefner, and that image fixed Marbella international profile for decades.

Today Banús is the most commercial and liveliest part of Marbella at night, with luxury brand shops, restaurants, clubs and the marina promenade as a showcase of yachts.

Where is Puerto Banús?

At the western end of the Golden Mile, about six kilometres from Marbella centre and at the entrance to the Nueva Andalucía valley. Levante and Poniente beaches flank the marina, and San Pedro de Alcántara is a few minutes to the west. Málaga airport is about forty-five minutes away.
